Marcus Sappington
Licensed Professional Counselor
As a counselor I appreciate being able to work with clients from all walks of life. My favorite part of the job is being able to build a working relationship with a client that feels grounded in empathy and respect. I believe it is important to create a comfortable environment for people of any background; including sexuality, gender expression, race, and spirituality. I primarily utilize a counseling approach grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Existential Counseling. This approach can look like exploring your life story, finding out what you want out of life, recognizing your most important values, and creating steps towards a more fulfilling life. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an evidence-based practice for many diagnoses including anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, and eating disorders.
I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Boise State University, and my Master’s of Counseling from Idaho State University. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Counseling at Idaho State University.
Outside of my work I have a wide range of hobbies including traveling, concerts, hiking, and Dungeons and Dragons when I get the chance. I also appreciate spending time relaxing with my partner and our three cats!
